The October 5 update

One day before general release, The Coalition shipped an official update covering the whole game. In the official notes it is framed as updates and improvements made during early access — mostly fixes, not new features:

  • Stability and performance: general stability, performance, hardware-compatibility and reporting improvements.
  • Online services: a fix for Versus Social matches stuck on “Waiting for players”, better Xbox authentication when the system clock is off, the split-screen “Bilefrog-Kalona” sign-out on suspend/resume, and improved session stability.
  • Campaign: join-in-progress players no longer inherit War Journal progress and Forge rewards earned before they joined; a turret-attachment fix; and objective fixes in Act 2 Chapter 2 and Act 4 (side objectives not starting; the Power Station defense completing).
  • Horde Siege: fixes for certain Siege Blitz Secure objectives not completing and an extraction helicopter failing to appear.
  • Versus: a Demolition fix for a bomb stuck defusing when the defusing player is eliminated.
  • UI: resized Online Diagnostic text and a fix for the UI repeatedly claiming the same Challenge Mail reward.

What it means for you

The player-facing highlights: if a co-op teammate joins mid-campaign, progression now behaves; split-screen sessions survive suspending the game; and two progression-blocking bugs (Siege Blitz objectives and the Horde extraction helicopter) were addressed. None of this changes how the game is played — it makes the launch build more reliable.

These are summaries of the official list. For the authoritative wording, read the official patch notes.

What’s coming next

More fixes are on the way: the official Gears channels have said a further patch-notes and known-issues update follows during launch week. This page will not chase every hotfix — treat it as the launch-window record, and check the official news feed for anything newer.
